The Introduction of University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW)

University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) was founded by the merger of the University System of Applied Science in four states of Basel City , Basel -Region, Aargau and Solothurn, forming one of 7 biggest Universities of Applied Science in Switzerland. Currently, there are 9 expertise fields in FHNW including these faculties: Business Administration, Psychology, Architecture and Construction, Geology, Modeling, Science & Life, Education, Social Participation and Mechanics. The training campuses of University are located in the states such as Aarau, Basel, Brugg, Liestal, Muttenz, Olten, Solothurn, Windisch and Zofingen. With the motto "Equal but different", FHNW provides undergraduate courses towards practical direction, particularly it is the leading unit in postgraduate training in Switzerland with more than 150 training programs of high academic quality.

The university's curriculum is recognized and certified by Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology of Switzerland (OPET), in accordance with Bologna Agreement on European Education, and studying outcomes are evaluated according to the ECTS system (European Credit Transferred Systems). Its training program has been recognized and accredited by FIBAA (The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation). The University is also a member of AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). In addition, the program is also accredited by OAQ (Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance of the Swiss Universities) and recognized by CRUS (Rector's Conference of the Swiss universities).

University curriculum is based on the latest research findings, associated with the projects of technical applications in industrial production, creating rich and dynamic financial resources, thereby creating attractive prospect for students in their careers later on. The University has a numerous teaching staffs of 700 lecturers and officers with high prestige and expertise level. Many of these are leading scientists, especially in the highlight fields of the university.

University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) has implemented the cooperation programs with approximately 120 universities of many countries all over the world such as America, England, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, China/Hong Kong, Korea, etc. including cooperative program with Harvard University. In Vietnam, FHNW has cooperated with Banking University and University of Technology of Ho Chi Minh City. On February 2nd 2009, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan came to visit and had a conference with the senior professors and lecturers of the university, witnessing the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between Switzerland and Vietnam.

University of Business Administration, under the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland is one of Swiss leading universities in the post-graduate training programs in business management. People participating in the training program are the executives and directors of small and medium enterprises in Switzerland and all over the world.  Students attending the program will be exposed to the most updated knowledge for practical application in the enterprises. The fields of business management that the university focuses on training are: Management and Leadership, Nonprofit and Public Management, Business Communication, Human Resource Management, Consulting and Training, Financial and Fiscal Control.

Several highly successful executive programmes are run off-shore by the FHNW School of Business in Vietnam.

  • The EMBA is a program in a Vietnamese-Swiss Cooperation between the FPT School of Business (FSB) and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. The FHNW General Management EMBA is a holistic post-graduate management education at the premises of FSB.
  • The BSc Business Administration in International Managementprogramme is delivered in conjunction with our partner organization, the Banking University HCMC (BUH) in Vietnam. The Bachelor in International Management (BSc IM) in English is a regular Swiss Business Administration programme.
  • In cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, theExecutive MBA in Banking and Finance has been running for five years. Over 600 students have either graduated or soon hope to graduate from this programme which is taught part-time in Vietnam but also includes a 3-week study trip to Switzerland.
  • The first EMBA-Management Consulting International course started in January 2010 in cooperation with the HCMC University of Technology in Saigon. The HCMC University of Technology is a well-known university in Vietnam and has a very good reputation.
